Passenger trains again cross Poland’s eastern border

18.10.2021

Recent amendments to the Regulation of the Council of Ministers enabled rail carriers to resume international connections crossing the external border of the European Union with the exception of Belarus. From 30 September 2021 it is possible to run trains connecting Poland and Ukraine as planned in the annual timetable.

After more than one and a half years the restrictions on the movement of rail passenger services crossing of the border of countries outside the Schengen Area (with the exception of the border with the Republic of Belarus) were lifted. Thus it will be possible to re-establish rail connections to/from Ukraine.

However, this amendment does not oblige railway companies to run international trains across the eastern border. The carriers will decide on the resumption of ticket sales and the date of return of international routes as planned in the annual timetable.

If you plan to travel by rail across the Polish-Ukrainian border, you should check the current timetable using online train search engines. You should also check the announcements published on the carriers’ websites.

We encourage you to verify the current information for travellers on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We also remind you that in public transport in Poland you should cover mouth and nose when onboard.
