From October 15 the regulations governing the validity of student cards during the COVID-19 epidemic are changing. From that day on, it will be obligatory to have a hologram on the ID card confirming the status as a student or a doctoral student.

The Minister of Education and Science issued a regulation repealing from August 15, 2021, temporary restrictions on the operation of certain entities of higher education and science in connection with  prevention, counteraction and combating COVID-19. The holder of a student or doctoral ID card which was valid in the winter semester of 2019/2020 academic year (i.e. until March 31, 2020) may travel on the basis of a concessionary ticket without the need to obtain a new hologram only until October 14, 2021.

Student and doctoral student ID cards were valid during the pandemic restrictions period and will be valid for 60 days after its end without the need to validate them (obtain a new hologram). It means that while travelling by train students and PhD students may use their ID cards with the last validation from 2019/2020 winter semester only until October 14, 2021. For travelling after this date, it will be necessary to have a hologram on the ID card confirming the student status or doctoral student status during the current academic year.

These rules apply only to students and PhD students. Students of primary and secondary schools as well as students of post-secondary schools with the right to a 37% discount in public transport already have an ID card with the current extension of validity for the school year.
