COVID-19 epidemic: Restrictions when travelling to Germany

From Saturday, October 24, when travelling from Poland to Germany you will have to enter home quarantine for 14 days unless you test negative for coronavirus. If you decide to take a test, it should be made within 48 hours before crossing the border. Poland has been listed as an ​​increased epidemic risk area. Before October 17 these restrictions were applied only to people entering Germany from selected regions in Poland (voivodeships).

By the decision of the German authorities from October 17, 2020, the following regions: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Małopolskie, Podlaskie, Pomorskie and Świętokrzyskie voivodeships were listed as areas of an increased risk of infection with coronavirus. From October 24 the entire territory of Poland will be recognized as an increased risk area. Anyone who enters Germany having spent time in a risk area up to 14 days before their arrival is obliged to proceed directly to their own home or another suitable accommodation and self-isolate there for 14 days unless they submit a valid negative COVID-19 test result. The rules on quarantine and COVID-19 test does not apply to:

  • rail transport workers (and other modes of transport) crossing the border on business;
  • people who cross the border in order to work in border areas;
  • people passing through Germany in transit.
