COVID-19 epidemic: validity of student's ID cards

29.10.2020

Student's ID cards which were valid for the academic year of 2019/2020 are still valid. Student who holds a reduced fare ticket and shows a student ID card without a valid hologram will not face any consequences.

Due to the epidemic outbreak in Poland, the validity of student's ID cards was extended until May 31, 2020. Under normal circumstances, the validity of student ID cards should be prolonged again by November 29, 2020. However, on October 19, 2020, in response to pandemic situation the Minister of Science and Higher Education introduced restrictions on graduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The validity of student's ID cards was thus extended again.

Regulations regarding the validity of student's ID cards were introduced in the Special Support Instruments to Combat the Spread of SARS-CoV-2 Virus Act 2020 which changes the Higher Education and Science Act 2018.

Current restrictions on functioning of universities are in force since October 19, 2020. Thus, students are able to use ID cards without visiting Dean’s offices in person to obtain new holograms. The next period for extension of ID cards validity is up to 60 days after the day when the restrictions on functioning of universities are lifted. However, due to ongoing epidemic this date is not set.
