New annual train timetable from 10 December 2023

06.12.2023

The new 2023/2024 train timetable will come into force at midnight 9/10 December 2023. In most European countries the timetable changes once a year, on the second weekend of December on Saturday night. The obligation to publish the new train timetables in advance rests mainly on operators of rail infrastructure facilities, i.a. station and platform managers.

The new timetable introduces several changes. Following the renovation of the railway line, the Lower Silesian local government is restoring trains to Świeradów-Zdrój after 27 years. Passengers at Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice and residents of the region will gain a rail connection to the airport thanks to the completion of the modernisation of Tarnowskie Góry - Pyrzowice Airport - Zawiercie railway line. New trains will connect Częstochowa with Tarnowskie Góry via the airport. In the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship, once modernisation works is completed, trains will also return to Braniewo - Olsztyn line and to the last section of railway line no. 35 between Chorzele and Szczytno. It will be possible to travel from Olsztyn and Szczytno towards Ostrołęka with a change of train in Chorzele.

A permanent return of trains to Zakopane is also planned from 22 December 2023. The modernisation works on Kraków - Zakopane section will be completed. Thanks to the construction of a junction bypassing the station in Chabówka, time-consuming changes of direction will be eliminated. During the construction of the link, Chabówka Stadion stop was built, so trains using the link will still be able to make stops in the town. The return - after a long break - of long-distance trains to the railway line connecting Kłodzko, Nowa Ruda and Wałbrzych is also noteworthy. There will be a new route for the international night train "Chopin" from Warszawa to Prague/Budapest/Graz, with some of the carriages previously running to Graz via Vienna, now running to Munich. The new international connections from Kraków to Berlin and Vienna and from Wrocław to Vienna are also planned. The infrastructure manager, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., will commission a number of new and modernised train stops.

Further changes in the organisation of rail and pedestrian traffic await passengers in the modernised Warszawa Zachodnia station. Due to the construction works, some trains will return to their basic routes via Warszawa Centralna station, while others will continue to be diverted to alternative routes (including to/from/through Warszawa Gdańska station) or their stop platforms or relations will be changed. At Warszawa Gdańska station the infrastructure manager will also commission a new platform (No. 5).

During the 2023/2024 timetable, the infrastructure manager, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., planned four adjustments due to ongoing modernisation works on the network. The changes to the timetable will be on the dates:

  • 10 March 2024
  • 9 June 2024
  • 1 September 2024
  • 10 November 2024

Any changes to a timetable should be announced at least 21 days before their entry into force on the infrastructure manager's website. Passenger stations’ managers are under obligation to publish a new timetable at least 10 days in advance to the introduction of a new timetable or timetable changes. Appropriate information should appear on posters or boards at train stations, platforms or passageways to platforms. The updated timetable should also be available on the rail carriers' websites, although the Polish law does not impose any specific publication dates.
