There are several rail carriers in Poland - long-distance carrier PKP Intercity and different carriers that run regional and agglomeration trains. Ukrainian citizens can travel for free on selected trains.
PKP INTERCITY
From 1 to 30 April 2022 Ukrainian citizens can travel for free on PKP Intercity trains in accordance with the rules listed below.
Free travel in Poland
1. Free travel is only for citizens of Ukraine who crossed the Polish border on or after 24 February 2022 and belong to the following groups:
- children and teenagers up to 18 years of age,
- women (no age limits),
- men over 60 years of age,
- men aged 18-60 who are disabled or have reduced mobility.
2. These persons can travel for free in class 2 of TLK and IC trains in carriages with seats.
3. They can travel for free on condition that they collect an additional free ticket and show:
- a passport that confirms crossing the Polish border on or after 24 February 2022 or
- a document with a photo confirming their identity (ID card, driving license, school or student card etc.) and a notification on PESEL number (Ukrainian citizenship must be written on the notification), which was issued after 24 February 2022.
Citizens of Ukraine who are disabled or have reduced mobility must additionally show documents proving disability (Ukrainian documents are also valid). These documents do not have to be presented by visibly disabled persons.
4. Carriage of goods and animals is free of charge.
5. Free of charge additional tickets can be collected at the ticket office or on the train on general principles, i.e. in case of travelling by:
- TLK and IC trains with obligatory seat reservation - only when there are free seats on these trains,
- TLK and IC trains without obligatory seat reservation - with or without a reservation.
Lack of a valid ticket should be reported to the train crew:
- before boarding the train when travelling with TLK and IC trains with obligatory seat reservation,
- before boarding the train or immediately after when travelling with TLK and IC trains without obligatory seat reservation.
6. When you check-in on a train no additional fees are collected.
7. If you want to change from class 2 to class 1 in a TLK or IC train, the difference between the price of ticket in class 1 and 2, calculated according to standard fares, is charged.
8. If you purchased a paid ticket and according to information here is entitled to free travel, they can return it at full price or exchange it for a free of charge ticket. If a ticket for carriage of goods or a dog was purchased, it will also be refunded in full.
Travelling from Poland to Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria or Hungary
9. If you can travel for free by train to Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria or Hungary only in class 2 coaches with seats.
For journeys abroad the same rules apply as for journeys within Poland, but with the following exceptions.
11. An additional free of charge ticket must be collected if you travel abroad:
- to the station abroad where PKP Intercity trains stop or
- to the last station in Poland.
12. Additional free tickets for international journeys can only be purchased at ticket offices that sell international tickets.
13. When travelling on international trains:
- 40476 Nightjet between Budapest - Wroclaw - Berlin,
- 40457 Nightjet between Berlin - Wroclaw - Budapest
a free of charge ticket can be collected only to the last station in Poland.
14. You can travel abroad on the basis of a passport or identity document confirming Ukrainian citizenship, in accordance with the rules of foreign rail companies.

REGIONAL AND AGGLOMERATION RAIL CARRIERS
Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure and Andrzej Bittel, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, called for an introduction of free travel for refugees from Ukraine. The letter with request to allow free travel was sent to all carriers by the President of the Office of Rail Transport, Ignacy Góra.
The following rail carriers introduced free travel schemes for Ukrainian citizens:
Arriva - travel by train is free for Ukrainian citizens. To travel for free you need a valid passport confirming citizenship.
Koleje Dolnośląskie - until 1 April 2022 the carrier introduced free travel for all Ukrainian citizens. Each passenger of Koleje Dolnośląskie with Ukrainian citizenship will receive the so-called zero ticket.
Koleje Małopolskie - until further notice, Ukrainian citizens can travel free of charge on trains and buses on lines operated by Koleje Małopolskie. To travel for free you need a valid passport or other document confirming Ukrainian citizenship.
Koleje Mazowieckie - from 26 February to 30 April 2022 Ukrainian citizens can travel on Koleje Mazowieckie KM trains free of charge. To travel for free you need a valid passport or other document confirming Ukrainian citizenship.
Koleje Śląskie - until further notice, Ukrainian citizens can use the Koleje Śląskie trains free of charge. To travel for free you need a valid passport or other document confirming Ukrainian citizenship;
Koleje Wielkopolskie - until 25 April 2022 citizens of Ukraine can travel free of charge on all Koleje Wielkopolskie trains. Persons entitled to free travel are those who have a Ukrainian identity card: women, children and teenagers up to 18 years of age and men over 60 years of age. As of 26 March 2022 refunding of tickets without deduction of a surcharge is withdrawn.
Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna ŁKA - from 1 to 30 April 2022 the following persons with Ukrainian citizenship are entitled to free travel on ŁKA and ŁKA Sprinter trains:

children and teenagers up to 18 years of age;

women (regardless of age);

men over 60 years of age;
-
men aged 18-60 with disabilities or reduced mobility.
These persons may travel for free with the tickets issued at ticket offices or from the train staff for a one-way trip, upon presentation of a Ukrainian passport that confirms crossing the border after 24 February 2022 or another document with a photo confirming identity (e.g. ID card, driving licence, student card) together with a confirmation of the assignment of a PESEL number, in which the foreigner's status as a person who has crossed the border after 24 February 2022 is indicated. These persons will also not be charged for the carriage of goods and animals.
PKP SKM Tricity - free travel for citizens of Ukraine is valid until further notice. You need a passport or other document confirming Ukrainian citizenship.
POLREGIO - refugees from Ukraine who have Ukrainian citizenship (children and youth up to 18 years of age, women, men over 60 years of age) can travel for free on REGIO and interREGIO trains in domestic transport on the basis of a document confirming their identity.
SKM Warszawa - persons who have a Ukrainian identity card may travel for free on public transport of Warsaw Public Transport (including SKM Warsaw trains).
Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa WKD - free and unlimited travel on WKD trains has been introduced for Ukrainian citizens until 30 April 2022. When traveling by WKD train, it is enough to show a Ukrainian passport or other document confirming Ukrainian citizenship.

БЕЗКОШТОВНИЙ ПРОЇЗД ПОТЯГОМ ДЛЯ ГРОМАДЯН УКРАЇНИ
Громадяни України можуть безкоштовно їздити потягами 2го класу PKP Intercity, економ класом TLK і IC по території Польщі. Проїзд можливий з паспортом громадянина України. Безплатний проїзд пропонують також інші перевізники. Постійно будемо актуалізувати інформацію.
Від 26 лютого громадяни України можуть безкоштовно користатися проїздом потягами PKP Intercity економ класом (TLK, IC) по території Польщі. Подруживати можна з пересадками на потяги інших напрямків PKP Intercity, TLK I IC. Більше інформації можна знайти на сайті PKP IC.
PKP Intercity здійснює сполучення між Польщею та Україною згідно з діючим розкладом руху поїздів. PKP Intercity приготований до посилення внутрішнього сполучення. До Перемишля відправлено додатково 20 вагонів. Компанія співпрацює з органами влади Республіки Польщі в проектах, спрямованих на збереження оперативної ефективності, а також з місцевою владою та центром антикризового управління в Перемишлі.Поточні потоки подорожуючих контролюються на постійній основі, а потяги посилаються додатковими вагонами.
РЕГІОНАЛЬНІ ТА АГЛОМЕРАЦІЙНІ ПЕРЕВІЗНИКИ
Міністр інфраструктури Анджей Адамчик і заступник міністра інфраструктури Анджей Біттель закликали впровадити безкоштовний проїзд для біженців з України. Лист про надання безкоштовного проїзду всім перевізникам надіслав президент Управління залізничного транспорту Ігнатій Гура.
BЕЗКОШТОВНОГО ПРОЇЗДУ ДЛЯ ГРОМАДЯН УКРАЇНИ ПОВІДОМИЛИ:
ARRIVA громадянами України запускає для них безкоштовні залізничні переїзди. Поїздка здійснюватиметься на підставі документів що підтверджує громадянство.
Koleje Dolnoślaskie - Залізниця Нижньої Сілезії - перевізник впровадив безкоштовний проїзд для всіх громадян України до 13 березня. Кожен пасажир щ українським громадянством отримає так званий "нульовий квиток";
Koleje Małopolskie - Малопольська Залізниця – до подальшого повідомлення громадяни України можуть безкоштовно їздити потягами та автобусами на лініях доставки, якими керує Koleje Malopolskie. Поїздка здійснюється на підставі паспорта або іншого документа, що підтверджує громадянство України
Koleje Mazowieckie - Залізниця Мазовецька - з 26 лютого по 25 березня 2022 громадяни України можуть безкоштовно їздити потягами Мазовецькій Залізниці. Потрібно пред'явити паспорт громадянина України або інший документ, що підтверджує громадянство України;
Koleje Śląskie - Силезійська Залізниця - до подальшого повідомлення громадяни України можуть безкоштовно користуватися поїздами Koleje Śląskie. Поїздка здійснюється на підставі паспорта або документа, що підтверджує громадянство України.
Koleje Wielkopolskie -Великопольська Залізниця - до 25 березня 2022 року громадяни України можуть безкоштовно їздити в усіх напрямках Залізниці Великопольської. Поїздки можуть здійснюватися на підставі паспорта або іншого документа, що підтверджує громадянство України;
Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna - Залізниця Лодзі - безкоштовний проїзд можна здійснити на підставі будь-якого документу, що підтверджує громадянство України;
POLREGIO - поїзди POLREGIO для громадян України будуть безкоштовними по всій Польщі. Перевізник готує додаткові сполуhчення Дорогуськ-Люблін, Перемишль/Медика-Краків
SKM Warszawa (Szybka Kolej Miejska Warszawa) Швидкісна міська Залізниця Варшави - особи, які мають український документ, що посвідчує особу, можуть безкоштовно їздити громадськім транспортом Варшавського громадського транспорту (також потягами SKM Warszawa);
WKD (Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa) - Варшавська приміська залізниця – до 25 березня 2022 року для громадян України запроваджено безкоштовні та необмежені проїзди поїздами WKD. Під час подорожі поїздом WKD достатньо пред'явити український паспорт або інший документ, що підтверджує громадянство України
