17.09.2019

27.5 million passengers travelled by rail in July 2019 - more than 1 million passengers than in July of last year. Passenger transport services amounted to 2.2 billion passenger-kilometres, and operational performance - to 14.5 million trainkilometres.

Almost 189 million passengers chose railway as their means of transport in the seven months of 2019 - by 6.7% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Transport operations reached the level of 12.6 billion passenger-kilometres and operational performance - 97.6 trainkilometres. These values rose by (respectively) 4.3% and 1.7% in comparison to last year's corresponding period.

- During the vacation period the passengers are more likely to choose railway as their means of transport to reach their holiday destinations. This means a substantial rise in the number of passengers using long-distance trains - underlines Mr. Ignacy Góra, Sc. D., President of the Office of Rail Transport.

July travels usually mean holiday trips. Passengers, who chose PKP Intercity trains, on average travelled a distance of 270 km, i.e. by 40 km more that an average distance travelled between January and May of 2019. The rise of average distance was also noted with regard to regional railway carriers, which provide additional connections to popular holiday resorts.
