Freight transport in May 2019

02.07.2019

In May 2019, carriers transported over 19.6 million tonnes of goods by rail, which is a decrease of 1.1 million tonnes (-5.3%) compared to May 2018. The transport work amounted to nearly 4.7 billion tonne-kilometres (down by 5.8%), while the operational performance was at the level of almost 7 million train-kilometres (down by nearly 4.7%). The average transport distance was 238 km and was 2 km lower.

During the first five months of 2019, fewer goods were transported than in the previous year. The decrease in the volume of aggregate transport had the greatest impact on this result. In total, in that period the carriers transported almost 100 million tonnes on Polish tracks. This value is lower by over 3% than in the analogous period of the previous year.

In five months, the carriers performed transport performance  at the level of 23.8 billion tonne-kilometres - nearly 2% less than in the same period last year, while the vehicles travelled almost 34.7 million train-kilometres (-2.9%).
