Rail transport performance in February 2024
This year in February almost 31,7 mln people used railway services. It’s nearly 4,4 mln more than in February last year. In freight transport 17,6 mln tones of goods were transported – 1,5 mln tones less in comparison to previous year.

The number of women working as train drivers on Polish railways is rising every year. Today 61 women are driving trains, with four fewer than in 2022. Simplified procedure when changing ECM’s name or address
A change of name or address of the Entity in Charge of Maintenance (ECM) will not require a procedure similar to the issuance of a new certificate of conformity for the ECM or a certificate of conformity for the maintenance function. The provisions of the Code of Administrative Procedure will apply in such a case. This does not apply to a change in the legal form of the ECM.

Rail transport in January 2024
The passenger rail services continue to grow, but in rail freight we see a downward trend as in previous months. In January 2024 almost 31.4 m people travelled by train. It is an increase by 6.1% compared to the previous year and the best monthly result achieved in passenger transport since January 2012. The total weight of goods carried by rail companies was 17.7 m tonnes, which is 13.4% less than in January 2023.

Spring train timetable adjustment
The spring adjustment of the annual train timetable comes into force on Sunday 10 March 2024. Trains according to this timetable will run until 8 June.

Great interest of entrepreneurs in obtaining a railway carrier license
In 2023, the President of the Office of Rail Transport (UTK) received 31 applications for granting a railway carrier license. At the end of last year, 139 carriers were licensed.

Record highs in passenger transport, less optimism in freight transport. Summary of 2023 on the railway transport market
In 2023, over 374.4 million people used the railway services. This means an increase of 9.4% compared to 2022. It is also the highest number of passengers in Poland after 1999. The weight of cargo handled by trains amounted to 231.7 million tons and was lower by almost 6.8% compared to the previous year. Smaller declines concerned the transport performance, which amounted to 61.6 billion tonne-kilometres – the second highest result over the last decade.
